Boker straight razor S.S. Saint Louis 6/8 square point

Promising distant places, the gentle sound of the waves, and the seemingly endless expanse of the ocean: during its first voyage from New York to Southampton in June 1895, there was a festive holiday atmosphere aboard the S.S. St. Louis. At that time, the passenger ship was considered a prestige object of the influential American Line and made the departure to distant Europe sweeter for up to 1,370 passengers with exclusive luxury spread over a length of 169 m at a pleasant cruising speed of 19 knots (approximately 35 km/h) - fine snacks and stylish comfort included! With its quadruple-expansion steam engine, the S.S. St. Louis was one of the largest and most powerful ocean liners under the American flag at the end of the century. Primarily intended for transatlantic line traffic between America and Europe, the steamship was temporarily used as a troop transport ship during the Spanish-American War and World War I. After this turbulent period, the ship was set to fully return to the line service, but in 1920, a major fire on board abruptly ended this project.

Boker & Co. stempel en is aan de onderzijde gekarteld. Het materiaal voor de handgreepschalen is voortreffelijk ebbenhout, dat dankzij de donkere kleuring doet denken aan de romp van de S.S. St. Louis, terwijl twee klinknagels en het Boker boom-embleem de gekroonde greep harmonieus accentueren. Het motief op het lemmet en de historische stempel zijn zorgvuldig gerestaureerd en met de modernste technieken op het scheermes gelaserd. Geleverd in een liefdevol nagemaakte historische nekdoos.
