What is aftershave and how do you use it?

Aftershaves are products that are applied to the shaved skin after shaving . Shaving may cause the skin to burn and may cause small wounds. The pores of the skin are opened more than normal.

Aftershave therefore often contains astringent substances and organic acids, which contract the pores of the skin, disinfectants that prevent wounds from becoming infected and cooling substances that suppress the burning sensation.

Another important aspect of aftershave is the scent. Aftershave is often seen as a kind of male perfume.

Until about 1990, aftershave lotions were mainly in fashion. After that time, two other forms emerged:the aftershave balm and the aftershave gel.

Aftershave powders and creams have fallen into disuse for many decades.
